Parents:
• Encourage your child to participate fully in his or her school music program.
• Provide your child with a quiet, consistent place to practice music—and acknowledge and encourage your child's successes.
• Let administrators and school board members know about your interest in the music program.
• Learn as much as possible about your school music programs and teachers, and promote them to community and civic organizations.
• Listen to music at home and attend music performances (especially school concerts) with your family.
• Contribute to First Octave! Your contribution will help support music education programs across the city.

Community Members:
• Help support efforts to maintain and expand music opportunities for all students and encourage the school system to provide adequate funding for the music program.
• Let administrators and school board members know about your interest in the music program.
• Attend school performances—they are among the best deals for high quality music offerings in every community.
• Donate good-quality used instruments to schools in need.
• Support school music fundraising.

Citizens:
• Let state and national legislators know how important music education is to our kids!
• Contribute to First Octave to help further the cause of music education.
